Winter wreaks havoc on even the most well-cared-for skin. “Cold, dry weather, coupled with wind, puts a strain on the outer skin layer,” says Joshua Zeichner, MD, director of cosmetic and clinical research in dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. “As natural oils become stripped from the surface of the skin, the barrier becomes disrupted. This leads to loss of hydration, itching, and inflammation.” And here are the things people do wrong during this harsh season.
